Reporting to the HOD- PR & Corporate Communications the position holder will be responsible for developing innovative Digital PR and external communications strategies, and PR campaigns that are tailored to meet Safaricom’s strategic goals. This includes managing the social media platforms for Safaricom PLC, Safaricom Foundation and M-PESA Foundations, and working collaboratively with the customer care team to ensure online customer care is delivered efficiently. The role also involves generation of content across multiple mediums and proactively building and managing relationships with key stakeholders across businesses functions, critical partners and media.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Lead the execution of Digital PR and Social Media strategies for Safaricom PLC, Safaricom Foundation and M-PESA Foundation across different social media platforms (Facebook, X, Linkedin, Youtube, Instagram, Tiktok etc).
- Provide strategic communications support for the Brand Assets and Sponsorships team.
- Provide strategic online communication advise to the senior leadership team.
- Build and protect the organization’s reputation through effective online monitoring and developing strategies to counter any negative narratives and ensure that Safaricom is perceived positively through proactive digital storytelling and collaboration with influencers and content creators.
- Support and contribute to the crisis communications team and the larger Crisis Management team.
- Cultivate and manage media relationships with traditional media, influencers, industry experts and beyond to amplify the organisation’s strategic messaging.
- Manage relationships with digital, production and communication agencies.
- Manage online coverage of Safaricom news, events, activities, customer notices and statements on all social media platforms to elevate and protect the brand.
- Manage communication budgets and ensure resources are used effectively.
- Manage and support issues management, when necessary.
- Ensure & maintain absolute confidentiality on information obtained.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Degree in Communications, Marketing, Business Administration, Journalism or Public Relations or any related field.
- Over 8 years’ experience in PR & Communications, Digital Marketing, Marketing (agency or in-house).
- Demonstratable and impeccable skills across social media, PR and the rest of the communications mix.
- Excellent communication skills and be a strong persuader and influencer at a senior level.
- Self-motivated, highly driven, resilient, enjoys working autonomously, hits the ground running, stays up to date on the latest online trends and demonstrates a willingness to learn.
- Excellent presentation, writing, proofing & editing skills.
- Pays attention to detail, strong analytical skills, and thinks outside the box to generate new ideas.
- Demonstration of experience in content generation, video editing is an added advantage.
- Possess a strategic approach to problems solving; able to anticipate potential reputational risks and issues.
- Creative yet analytical approach to creating content, setting up processes and utilizing data at hand.
- Highly driven, self-motivated, target oriented, resilient, and tenacious.
