Assistant Accountant Entry Level at Angaza
Role Summary
Reporting to the Finance Manager, this role will be a valued member of Angaza Kenya’s Finance team responsible for accounting, taxation, procurement operations as well as office and asset administration. The position will play a critical role in ensuring smooth office and asset administration as well as timely and accurate accounting and monthly closes that will help in availing reliable monthly financial accounts for the management.
Responsibilities
Successful candidates will be expected to perform the following functions:
- Post sales in ETR machine
- Prepare and file various KRA taxes – VAT, WHT, WHVAT, PAYE, etc. for consistent compliance
- Record accounting transations on Quickbooks Online
- Perform bank and GL reconciliations
- Maintain prepayments, accruals, A/P, and A/R schedules
- Maintain the FAR, manage the company storage/inventory and post depreciation
- Participate in the monthly and annual close processes
- Reconcile travel and per diem advances
- Initiate M-PESA payments and bank transfers for approval on request
- Maintain and manage company petty cash
- Draft LPOs for approval on request
- Generate e-slips for statutory deductions after payroll approval
- Participate in the external audit process
- Perform any other duties as may be assigned by management
Required Academic & Professional Qualifications
- Bachelor of Commerce in Finance or Accounting
- At minimum, Part II of CPA
Required Skills, Attributes & Experience
- Solid Quickbooks skills, including management of bank reconciliations, VAT, as well as supporting schedules like prepayments, accruals, A/Ps and A/Rs within the Quickbooks application.Â
- Generation of TIMS-compliant sales invoices and filing taxes (PAYE, WHT, WHVAT, VAT, etc.) on itax
- General Ledger accounting and bank reconciliations
- IT-savvy; able to easily embrace and adopt new technology, especially software tools in finance & accounting

- Effective at self-managing in a remote working environment; can manage time, schedule work, and deliver on expectations with minimum supervision
- Curious and innovative; ready to learn on the go and grow in a startup environment
- Strong interpersonal skills; works well within teams and is able to communicate and effectively collaborate with non-Finance team members
