Effective nutrition support requires dedicated experts at headquarters and regional divisions.
Support Country Program Development
The Junior Professional Officer (JPO) will contribute towards achieving IFAD’s ambitious results in nutrition in an integrated approach with gender, youth, indigenous peoples and climate change, as well as other relevant sectors/issues and to support regional country operations in East and Southern Africa Division (ESA). As Technical Analyst you will serve as a technical expert and analyst in nutrition and its integration with social inclusion. You will work under the supervision of the Senior Technical Specialist (Nutrition), with mentoring from the Lead Technical Specialist (Nutrition) based in the East and Southern Africa Regional Office in Nairobi, Kenya. You will support the country and regional programmes with the following duties:
- Assist in designing, implementing, and monitoring nutrition and social inclusion in IFAD country programs.
- Secure funding for nutrition projects and provide technical support.
- Strengthen IFAD’s country-level programs.
Knowledge Management And Capacity Building
- Develop policies and projects for nutrition-sensitive investments.
- Foster knowledge sharing and capacity building.
- Coordinate knowledge dissemination and participate in discussions.
- Enhance PMUs’ capacity for nutrition-sensitive activities.
Partnership Building And Outreach
- Establish partnerships with technical organizations, UN agencies, and NGOs.
- Engage in policy dialogues and represent IFAD at events.
- Develop alliances in global and regional policy forums, focusing on nutrition.
Monitoring, Evaluation, And Reporting
- Support knowledge management, monitoring, and reporting for better program decisions.

For This Position
- Master’s degree in social sciences, ideally in the field of nutrition e.g Social Studies, Development Studies, Agriculture, Rural Development, Natural Resource Management, Environmental studies, Climate Change, Agricultural Economics, Agro-ecological production systems, Food Security or related field.
- At least 2 years, preferably 3 years of progressively relevant professional experience in nutrition sensitive agriculture and food systems, and demonstrated understanding of, development initiatives in the field of nutrition. IFAD counts relevant experience (inlcuding internships and volunteering) at 100%, gained after completion of the first university degree.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English, including the ability to set out a coherent analysis in presentations and group interactions.
- Working knowledge of another official language (Arabic or Spanish) is desirable.
