Engineer Infrastructure Operations & Security Remediations at Safaricom Kenya
Reporting to the Team Lead Infrastructure Operations & Security Remediations, the position holder will be responsible for Systems Administration, security patch and vulnerability management of Safaricom Windows/Linux/UNIX based servers. Other tasks to include AD, DNS, DHCP, ADFS, Microsoft Entra ID and Exchange systems administration; servers, storage and SAN support; systems integration, backups, system monitoring, performance tuning, troubleshooting, skills transfer and customer management. Configuration management and documentation.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Incidents and problem resolution
- Working in an agile environment and utilizing relevant tools such as Jira & Confluence.
- Private and Public Cloud Compliance management and implementation for servers based on Windows, Linux and UNIX Operating Systems.
- AD, DNS, DHCP, ADFS, Microsoft Entra ID, Exchange, Email Archiving and Windows Servers Administration.
- Patch and vulnerability management and implementation for servers based on Windows, Linux and UNIX Operating Systems.
- Administering, configuring and troubleshooting servers based on UNIX/Linux and Virtualization. This includes response, problem resolution and escalation of server issues.
Service Excellence
- Analysis of server/storage hardware and operating system software. This includes implementation of tactical service improvements, upgrades and system patching.
Systems Maintenance and SLA Support
- Liaise with users, hardware and software vendors and internal systems owners to fine tune systems hardware and software for all systems.
Backup and Recovery
- Operations of backup tools and testing of disk and data recovery.
- Provide solutions on all business systems. Prompt restoration of lost data for the business.
- Backup, hardware and software assurance.
Projects Implementation and Reporting
- Technical support for assigned company initiatives and projects. Participation in feasibility studies and testing for new IT infrastructure components.
- Maintenance of systems documentation and procedures.
QUALIFICATIONS
- University Degree in Computer Science or Related Field.
- 5+ years’ experience in infrastructure support and/or planning in an environment with mixed VMware and Redhat virtualization.
- 5+ Years’ Experience as Systems administrator, Network administrator or analyst in a multifaceted business environment with integrated/mixed Windows, UNIX/Linux server environment. High Level System Administration – understanding OS Performance, highly complex systems providing service for the corporate user community and the GSM.
- Excellent knowledge on Active Directory, DNS, ADFS, Microsoft Entra ID, Exchange, Email Archiving and Windows Server Administration.
- Experience in patch and vulnerability management
- Knowledge of vulnerability scoring systems (CVSS, CVE) and the different standards/frameworks for cyber security e.g. NIST, CIS, owasp
- Knowledge in threat modeling and different ways of remediating/eliminating vulnerabilities.
- Basic principles of information security (CIA triad, AAA, DiD)
- System Administration Techniques – understanding OS Performance, Microsoft and UNIX/Linux enterprise hardware and storage.
- Security Administration Techniques – Ways of identifying vulnerabilities in a system (dynamic scans, static scans and penetration testing),
- Attention to details and analytical thinking
- Strong oral, written, interpersonal communication and leadership skills
Certification in any of the following Systems and Network or related trainings is an added advantage
