Financial Systems Software Development Engineer at Safaricom Kenya

Reporting directly to the Development Lead of Fintech within the Financial Services IT domain, the chosen candidate will play a pivotal role in the development, support, and evolution of financial systems, ensuring service availability reaches an impressive 99.999%.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop software solutions for new financial services in alignment with approved design specifications and industry best practices.
  • Contribute to the design phase of new solutions, ensuring robustness and scalability.
  • Conduct comprehensive software testing to meet functional and non-functional requirements, including performance testing and monitoring.
  • Document and maintain software functionality and releases meticulously.
  • Engage in troubleshooting, debugging, and optimization of existing systems, ensuring optimal performance and reliability.
  • Recommend and implement improvements to existing systems to enhance efficiency and functionality.
  • Uphold internal process improvements in accordance with software development standards.
  • Actively participate in code reviews to ensure code quality and adherence to best practices.
  • Manage release and change management processes effectively.
  • Contribute to innovation initiatives aimed at driving continuous improvement.
  • Implement measures to elevate delivery quality and minimize major defects in production environments.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Telecommunications, Electronic Engineering, or IT (with specialization in operating systems, databases, and system development).
  • Minimum of 2 years of work experience as an engineer in Financial Technology or telecommunications environments (vendor or operator).
  • Proficiency in software development using Java and Python.
  • Familiarity with coding languages such as Java, Python, JavaScript, and frameworks/systems including Spring Boot, AngularJS, Git, and Apache Camel.
  • Knowledge of Agile methodology, with certification in Scrum fundamentals being advantageous.
  • Understanding of DevOps practices and methodologies.
  • Experience with mobile money systems is highly desirable.
  • Familiarity with cloud technologies such as AWS, Microsoft Azure, Huawei, or GCP; certifications are a plus.
  • Knowledge of container orchestration technologies like Kubernetes.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to work independently, meet tight deadlines, and operate without supervision.
  • Excellent presentation, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proactive, self-motivated, and capable of building positive relationships with stakeholders.
