2.The Role
We are currently in search of a junior accountant to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting and compliance with applicable regulations and laws. They should also have the ability to analyse financial data, spot trends, and make strategic recommendations. A high level of communication skills is also essential for interfacing with Directors and Portfolio companies to ensure the accuracy and completeness of financial records.
3. Main Tasks
3.1 Maintenance of Financial Records
3.1.1 Accurate data entry
3.1.2 Maintain and review purchases and sales accounts
3.1.3 Report creation for various entities
3.1.4 Keep an updated Fixed asset register that duly reconciles with the Fixed asset general ledger account
3.1.5 Perform general ledger reconciliation at the end of every month
3.2 Payroll Management
3.2.1 Prepare and submit statutory deductions
3.2.2 Ensure all staff salaries, wages and expense claims are approved and paid on time.
3.2.3 Cash and Bank management
3.2.4 Manage petty cash including obtaining approvals
3.2.5 Timely bank reconciliations
3.3 Management Reporting
3.3.1 Prepare Trial Balance, Balance Sheet, and Management accounts monthly
3.3.2 Put together financial reports of analyses of actual against budget, performance ratios and KPI’s
3.4 Tax Management
3.4.1 Prepare and maintain accurate VAT records
3.4.2 File and keep up with VAT returns, and withholding VAT
3.4.3 Ensure that all taxes pertaining to the business are filed and paid for
4. Required skills
4.1 Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, Business Administration, Economics or related field of study.
4.2 2 – 4 years of relevant experience
4.3 ACCA / CPA
4.4 Experience with an ERP or Accounting systems e.g., Xero, QuickBooks
4.5 Willingness and ability to learn new skills
4.6 Experience in filing and managing taxes for multiple clients
4.7 Knowledge of English language is mandatory, Kenyan nationality is strongly preferred
